An industrial sewing machine was top of the wish-list of children at the Bom Samaritano children’s home in Alvor. Recently, Rotary Club of Silves (RCS) ensured their wish was fulfilled.
Money to purchase the machine was raised by RCS members and a donation was made by artist and member David Trubshaw from the sale of paintings at his exhibition in Cologne.
This advanced sewing machine will enable Celina Jesus, a staff member who is also an experienced seamstress, to repair, renew and remodel new clothes for the children from the nearly new clothing items donated by friends and members of the public.
With more than 30 children, boys and girls, aged between three and 18, there is a constant demand for repairing and replacing items of clothing.
David Trubshaw says he hopes the sewing machine will give years of service and be a long term investment for the benefit of the children at Bom Samaritano.
Appeal for clothing
Bom Samaritano welcomes donations of clean, nearly new children’s clothing.
