Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) celebrated the start of spring with a BBQ, the first of what is hoped will be many fundraising activities at their new headquarters in Almancil, formerly Escola Básica in Vale de Éguas.
After weeks of heavy rain and colder than usual weather, the sun decided to grace the event with its presence and was welcomed by all.
More than 70 people attended the BBQ, with representatives from the Rotary Clubs of Silves, Tavira, Olhão, Estoi, Faro, Praia da Rocha, Loulé and Perth in Scotland, and enjoyed the usual BBQ cuisine expertly cooked by Rotarians José Galamba (left) and Paul Baltes.
Music was provided by saxophonist Martin Teutscher and by Georg Pflanz who came with his barrel organ complete with monkey.
AIRC President Volker Biebesheimer said: “Whilst we will continue to hold our regular Rotary meetings at the Conrad Algarve, this is the perfect venue for our fundraising activities. I am delighted that our first such event was such a success thanks to all our volunteers and, of course, all the people who turned up to support us and enjoy the afternoon. We’re looking forward to many more fundraising events so that we can continue to support local charities.”
