Rotarian celebrations at handover dinner

Since it was first chartered in 2006, Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) has had presidents representing six European nationalities. On July 2, José Vargas Galamba, AIRC’s first Portuguese president was appointed during a celebratory dinner at the Hilton Hotel Vilamoura.
Outgoing president Raymond Parfait reminded guests of AIRC’s activities during his year as president and was delighted to report that the club had provided support to more than 10 local organisations and individuals including UNIR, Riding for the Disabled and the successful schools’ cookery competition.
It has also pledged €2,000 towards a future project for the Algarve Oncology Association.
The dinner was attended by more than 80 Rotarians and guests, the Assistant District Governor, João Paulo Sousa, Presidents representing Rotary clubs from all over the Algarve and members of the recently-charted Rotary Interact Club of Quarteira.
Raymond thanked club members for their enthusiasm and hard work and wished José Galamba a successful year as president.
José stated that, in his year as president, he wanted to concentrate on fellowship and attract new members to enable the club to help more people:
“We are a truly international club. Our meetings are held in English and we currently have members representing 10 nationalities all working together to improve the quality of life for people in our community who are less fortunate than we are.”
