Organisers are celebrating another successful Rota do Petisco (Tapas Route), which sold over 237,000 tapas and raised €22,500 for charity.
The gastronomic event, which encourages people to taste tapas and sweets at local restaurants and cafés, was held in nine boroughs this year, taking place for the first time in Faro and Olhão.
It was held in three stages – the first in Lagos, Aljezur and Vila do Bispo in May and June. Dubbed ‘Terras do Infante’, the first stage of the event saw over 44,000 tapas sold, a 50% increase compared to last year.
The event then moved on to Faro and Olhão (‘Terras da Ria’), where over 10,000 tapas were sold at 34 establishments, before returning “home” to Portimão as well as Lagoa, Silves and Monchique (‘Terras do Arade’) where an average of 5,000 tapas were sold per day.
Organisers Teia d’Impulsos estimate that the event generated a record €670,000 for the establishments that took part.
It also raised €22,500 through the sale of the event’s ‘passports’. The money will be “distributed among 12 local charities” throughout the coming months.
The results were officially unveiled last Friday at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes in Portimão in what was described as the event’s “closing party”.
