Rota do Petisco back with a charitable twist

The food festival’s 12th edition will include 220 restaurants across the Algarve and give the full purchase value of its “passport” to youth charities.

The Rota do Petisco is back for its 12th edition from September 14th to October 16th. This year, the much-anticipated food festival takes place across 11 Algarve municipalities and involves 220 restaurants and similar establishments with dishes for every taste and palate.

Restaurante Alvorada

The event was created in Portimão in 2011 by the cultural association Teia D’Impulsos to promote local restaurants and commerce, promote the Algarve’s traditional gastronomy, and revitalise participating localities through social and cultural entertainment, enriching the region’s tourist offer in the low season.

À Ravessa

Eleven years later, it now takes place in the municipalities of Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Monchique, Lagoa, Silves, Albufeira, Loulé, São Brás of Alportel, Tavira and Portimão.

Throughout the month, visitors will be able to taste some of the region’s most popular delicacies. At 3.50€, the “petisco” menu includes a snack and drink, and for 2.5 euros, the “doce” menu consists of a dessert and a drink. Each establishment will offer a vegetarian option.

There will also be signature dishes on the Rota dos Chefs (Chefs Route), made with local products reinterpreted by renowned chefs. Another mandatory itinerary is the Rota do Mundo (World Route), offering the opportunity to taste delicacies from countries such as Spain, Italy, India, China, Turkey, Chile, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Holland and Japan.

Casa Inglesa

And last but not least, the Rota da Memória (Memory Route) will take us down memory lane with timeless comfort food dishes made the traditional Algarvian way.

This year’s event also marks the European Youth Year, dedicating this edition to charities through the sale of the Rota dos Petiscos passports. The full sale value of each “passport” will be donated to six regional institutions and projects that fight social, racial and gender discrimination, promote the mental health of young people or boost youth volunteering.
