Rosettes and progress at Pinetrees riding centre

The Autumn Gymkhana at Pinetrees Riding Centre in Almancil on October 25 provided the perfect event for many horse-mad youngsters to try and win their first rosette.

Pru Clayton Mead from Equus Ourique riding centre judged the turnout, rapport and abilities in a variety of riding classes ranging from “on the lead rein” to the more experienced of the riders demonstrating a canter of a figure of eight.

Although some participants were local riders, many were in the Algarve for a regular visit to their holiday home, giving the event an international flavour with Germany, Holland, UK and Ireland as well as Portugal being represented.

After a lunch break of hot dogs supplied by the RDA volunteers, the riders enjoyed trying their skills in a “Handy Horse” which is a testing and amusing course of obstacles to be completed with time penalties for misdemeanours.

The spectators were supportive giving the riders plenty of encouragement and applause.
