For the fifth year in a row, Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the three finalists of UEFA’s ‘Best Player in Europe’ award.
Last season, CR7 won the UEFA Supercup and the FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid and was the top scorer of La Liga (Spanish league) with an astonishing 48 goals.
Other hopefuls include Barcelona rivals Lionel Messi and Luís Suarez, who together achieved the admirable feat of winning the La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
The three stars topped a European poll of journalists, who will be choosing and announcing the final winner on August 27 in Monaco during the Champions League group draw.
Ronaldo won last year and could add a second award to his trophy room.
Previous winners include Franck Ribéry (2012/2013), Andrés Iniesta (2011/2012) and Lionel Messi (2010/2011).
The award takes into account the players’ performances in club and international matches as long as the players represent a team within the UEFA.
