Ronaldo loses ‘Best Player in Europe’ award but steals show with “freshest suit”

Although he put on another exceptional display of football last season, Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo failed to win his second ‘Best Player in Europe’ award yesterday (August 27), being beaten by Argentine arch-rival Lionel Messi. He can take comfort, however, in the fact that he “stole the show” with his elegant “made in Portugal” Sacoor suit.

Social media raved about the stylish, navy-blue suit, and even Eurosport said Ronaldo “stole the show” taking home “the award for freshest suit” bestowed “by the good people of Twitter”.

But when it came to voting, Barcelona star Messi received an overwhelming 49 votes from a poll of journalists, with only three going to his Uruguayan teammate Luís Suaréz and just two for CR7.

Messi now has two UEFA ‘Best Player in Europe’ awards, with previous winners including Ronaldo (2013/2014), Franck Ribéry (2012/2013) and Andrés Iniesta (2011/2012).

While Ronaldo scored a mind-boggling 66 goals in 60 matches last year – against Messi’s 62 goals in 65 games – it was Messi who helped Barcelona win the ‘Treble’, which includes the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League.

The award ceremony took place in Monaco during the Champions League group stage draw.

As to the suit, bizarrely, this is not yet available in Portugal, though Sacoor have assured reporters that it will be soon.
