Rolling Stones rock "Rock in Rio"

The Rolling Stones, Linkin Park, Justin Timberlake and Queens of the Stone Age top an incredible list of musical icons performing at Lisbon’s Rock in Rio 2014, starting this weekend.
The festival begins on Sunday (May 25) at the capital’s Bela Vista Park with performances by English pop idol Robin Williams and charismatic Brazilian singer Ivete Sangalo.
The legendary Stones come four days later – and tickets were sold out weeks ago. This will be the Rolling Stones fifth concert in Portugal. Anticipation is almost at the same pitch as that for the weekend’s Champions League final.
Opening acts on the night of the Stones are Xutos e Pontapés, American Grammy-winning guitarist Gary Clark Jr. and Portuguese legend Rui Veloso.
The next day (May 30), is the turn of Linkin Park and Queens of the Stone Age.
Saturday (May 31) sees a more pop-esque line-up, with New Zealand’s new sensation Lorde and English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran performing for the first time in Portugal before indie-rockers Arcade Fire close the night.
Justin Timberlake will end this year’s festivities on Sunday (June 1), alongside performances by English pop star Jessie J and American rapper Mac Miller.
The festival, widely recognised as one of the world’s biggest music and entertainment events, returns this year to Portugal after its 2013 edition was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
This will be the fifth time Rock in Rio has been held in Lisbon, and organisers have already confirmed it will return to the Portuguese capital in 2016 and 2018.
The list of artists that have already graced the Rock in Rio stage in Lisbon is astounding, including everything from Metallica and Bon Jovi to Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder.
