Rock in Rio-Lisboa update

The line up for the Rock in Rio-Lisboa festival just keeps getting bigger and better. The event, which is set to take place at the Bela Vista Park in Lisbon for five days between May 30 and June 6, promises music to suit all ages and musical tastes.

More artists to perform in the World Tent

The latest band to be announced for the World Tent is one of the biggest nu-metal gothic rock bands performing in 2003. Evanescence have announced that they are playing at the Rock in Rio-Lisboa event on May 30. They will take the stage on the same day as Portuguese band Xutos & Pontapés, Charlie Brown Jr and rock legends Guns ‘n’ Roses. The last time the rock band performed in Lisbon, to promote their album Fallen, tickets were a complete sell-out.

The Roots Tent

In a recent press conference, Roberto Medina, the creator of the original Rock in Rio event, announced that over 20 bands from all over the world will perform over five days in the Roots Tent. Artists include award-winning Portuguese Fado singer, Mariza, the American band, Klezmatics, and the new African diva, Angelique Kidjo. “This space will reflect a meeting of people from different nations who are able to work in harmony and promote each of their countries’ characteristics,” a spokesperson from the event said.

Avril comes to town

One of the biggest Canadian solo singers, Avril Lavigne (above), is set to perform at the 10th Super Bock Super Rock festival on June 10. The festival, which is staged in the Parque das Nações in Lisbon, will feature stars such as Linkin Park, Korn and Nelly Furtado. Avril firmly established herself as one of the world’s most successful pop/rock solo artists last year, thanks to the success of her debut album Fallen. She is currently working on a new album with ex-Evanescence member Ben Moody and folk singer Chantal Kreviazuk. This festival will be an excellent opportunity for fans to hear Avril’s new work.
