Robbery at Almancil restaurant

A HIGH CLASS restaurant in Almancil (Algarve), Dom Julio, was robbed in the early hours of last Saturday morning, with thieves stealing cash and valuables totaling a value of around 27,000 euros, confirmed a spokesperson at Loulé police.

The number of robbers involved is unknown, but it is believed the thieves broke in via a small window at the rear of the building. On arrival, it is believed they cut the telephone line and wrenched the alarm from the wall, thereby buying time to steal whatever they wished. Inside the restaurant, they found the keys to a commercial vehicle which they took with them, as well as a safe containing around 1,400 euros. They also took 300 euros from the till and a television.

The owners of the well known restaurant, which is located near the luxury resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, had left the restaurant at around 2.30am, but only discovered a robbery had taken place when they arrived at the restaurant at 10am on Saturday morning. The GNR, who were called to the scene immediately, are investigating the incident. C.C.
