Roads closed in Portimão for rally

DRIVERS IN Portimão face road closures today (Friday) and tomorrow due to the Rally Casinos do Algarve, one of the oldest car racing competitions in the region.

The last competition of the National Rallies Championship is taking place along the Portimão riverside, affecting the roads in some of the city’s main streets.

Traffic will be diverted today between 9am and 6pm and completely stopped between 6pm and 11pm in the area around the market and the Caldeira do Moinho neighborhood.

On Saturday, cars will only be allowed to use these areas from 4pm to 6.30pm. The Avenida Tomás Cabreira in Praia da Rocha will also be closed to traffic from 4pm to 6.30pm tomorrow for the podium ceremony, scheduled for 5.40pm.

The pit area for the 36th edition of the Casinos do Algarve Rally will be based on the riverside walk of the Arade.

The competition starts today at 9pm with qualifying to be held in Portimão’s Park for Fairs and Exhibits. Tomorrow the competition restarts at 9am with seven timed races in the Monchique area.

For two days, the riverside walk of the Arade is expected to host thousands of visitors to watch the most traditional competition of the national car racing championship.

An autograph session is scheduled for today (Friday) at 7pm with the racers Pedro Lamy and Pedro Magalhães, who currently hold the Le Mans World Champions title.
