Dear Editor,
I thought Portugal was short of money! Apparently not. We keep on hearing how well the tourism industry is doing.
But all we see is smaller and smaller numbers of visitors to our bar/restaurant.
We speak to lots of other people in this business and everyone tells the same story, no customers.
Now Almadena is shut (coming up to the busiest time of the year June, July and August) because we need a new traffic island. We don’t! If we do, then build it in the winter, not the height of summer.
The ‘desvios’ signs are minimal and obscure, and I foresee more accidents happening in the near future. Having spoken to one of the nine or 10 surveyors/engineers on site (why so many?), I was informed that this major improvement to the EN125 will take eight to 10 weeks to complete.
Goodbye any hope of earning enough to keep a small business through the winter months.
All this when the same sort of alleged improvements at the Salema PDF crossroads are still not finished four months after starting.
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that all this is a waste of time and money and a serious threat to small businesses in this part of the Algarve? I despair.
