River Minho threatened by pollution, overfishing, climate change

Pollution, overfishing and climate change are threatening species in the Minho river basin, particularly lamprey, shad, sea trout, salmon and eel in the Minho river basin. Lusa news agency travelled yesterday at the invitation of the European Commission to hear of the findings of a cross-border project, dubbed Migra Miño/Minho. António Martinho, a technician from the National Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests highlighted the common problem for all rivers and waterways in the basin, saying: “we have fewer and fewer natural stocks”.
