Riding for the Disabled welcomes volunteers

Riding for the Disabled Barlavento will hold introductory welcome sessions for new and seasoned volunteers on October 7 and 14 – both starting at 10am – at the Pinetrees Riding Centre in Almancil.
As the non-profit organisation has already announced, it is in “urgent need” of volunteers to lead horses or walk alongside less-able riders.
“Do not worry if you have not had any experience with either horses or disabled people as we will be holding on-going training sessions to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to be of most help,” the organisation assures.
Sessions for physically and mentally-challenged children and young adults will resume on September 25, using horse-riding to help overcome their handicaps.
These sessions are held during school terms on Thursday and Friday mornings at the riding centre.
