This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Algarve Riding Club (Clube de Equitação do Algarve). The club started informally in 1984, when a group of horse owners and horse lovers got together with the common aim of “improving the welfare of the horses in the Algarve”. It was only in 1991 that the club was formally organised with a Portuguese constitution and a set of rules. Some years later, the ARC also became an affiliated member of the Portuguese Equestrian Federation (Federação Equestre Portuguesa).
The club organises an event each month, ranging from showjumping and dressage to gymkhana and endurance rides, for riders of all ages and levels. Also, for those who are not keen on competing or showing, the club has training clinics in various disciplines. This year’s first of many events will be showjumping at Quinta do Lago Riding Centre on Sunday February 1 (see programme below). All riders and non-riders are welcome to come along.
