Revenue from speed-trap radars “below expectations”

Minister for interior administration José Luís Carneiro has announced that revenues from the installation of speed trap radars on various busy roads have been “below expectations”, bringing in somewhere in the region of €70-80 million. But the reason for them remains: as he has said in the recent past, “experience has shown us that where speed-trap radars are sited, there is a reduction that can reach 70% in the number of deaths and serious injuries. This shows they arae a useful tool, not to bring in money, but fundamentally to save people’s lives”.
