Revellers targeted

Twenty-seven people were arrested on suspicion of drug dealing in a police operation at the Meo Sudoeste music festival in Zambujeira do Mar which took place between August 7 and 11.

Of the total 74 drug busts, 1,283 doses of hashish were confiscated as well as 20 of cannabis, 28 of cocaine and 70 of MDMA. The GNR police force also apprehended 97 ecstasy pills and 28 cannabis plants. Additionally, the authorities arrested one person for drink driving, another for insulting an officer and another for alleged theft.

More than 154,000 people attended the event, which is considered one of the most popular music festivals in Portugal, this year celebrating its 17th anniversary.

The police operation included 70 officers from different departments, such as public security, criminal investigation, road-safety and environmental safety.
