Return of the champions

Fate has provided Cristiano Ronaldo with an early return to his former hunting ground of Old Trafford.

The Champions League last 16 draw sees CR7 and still Real Madrid manager José Mourinho welcome Manchester United to the Bernabeau on February 13 before embarking for the potentially do-or-die return leg in the north of England on March 5. Madrid have endured a disastrous league season to date, trailing a long way behind arch rivals Barcelona, and both the Portuguese manager and playmaker have been the subject of transfer rumours.

Elsewhere, Arsenal face last season’s beaten finalists Bayern Munich while Celtic’s heroic efforts have been rewarded with a tie against Juventus.
