Retail sales in Portugal saw an increase of 2.9% in the month of May, when compared to April.
According to Eurostat, countries within the EU registered an average 0.6% retail sales increase in May, concluding that Portugal surpasses many others. Official statistics show that compared to April, May’s highest increases were seen in Austria (3.1%), Portugal (2.9%) and Latvia (2.1%). On the flip side, Portugal represents the second largest drop in retail sales (-5.1%), when compared to May last year, surpassed only by Malta (-7.3%) and just ahead of Spain (- 4.8%).
