Restrictions imposed on marina project

Ferragudo’s marina project will have less area for construction than initially planned following an environmental impact declaration issued by the government.

According to the declaration, there will be no units for habitation purposes built on the land, but a hotel with 270 rooms, tourist apartments and shops have been approved for construction.

The project, whose public consultation phase finishes today (Friday), initially had a construction area of more than 25,000sqm but it has now been reduced to 16,686sqm.

Around 50 million euros are being invested in the construction of the new marina, which will have moorings for more than 300 boats.

As a compensatory measure, Sociedade Martemple SA, the company that has the concession for the project, has to build a fishing port, carry out restoration work on the life guard station as well as improve the roads and drainage in the area.
