Owners confirm they do not have insurance to cover the damage
A restaurant in Faro is looking to rebuild after sustaining significant damage due to a fire on Wednesday night (April 19).
Authorities were alerted to the fire at 9.04pm.
No one was hurt as the restaurant was closed for its weekly day off.
Firefighters battled the blaze for around one hour and a half, reports Jornal de Notícias.
‘Monky’, an Asian food restaurant located near the Moto Clube de Faro, operates on the ground floor of a residential building. According to JN, some residents left their apartments as a precaution and returned when the fire was already under control.
A total of 28 firefighters and police officers were on the scene, supported by nine vehicles.
Traffic was disrupted on the streets near the establishment.
The restaurant’s owners have confirmed that Monky will remain closed indefinitely.
“No one was hurt and the material damage was just that, material damage,” they said in an Instagram post, adding that they do not have insurance to cover this kind of damage.
Nonetheless, they stress that they are determined to reopen.
