Restaurant protest

Restaurant owners in the Cais Herculano area of Albufeira held a protest last Thursday against aggressive touting techniques.

In total, eight restaurants closed their doors in the morning and large black banners with the word ‘protest’ were hung across the esplanade areas. Restaurant owners are complaining about a competitor who is said to have hired several people to solicit for custom, which goes against recent rules defined by the establishments to ensure fair business practices. Each restaurant is allowed one touter per establishment.

Albufeira Câmara is preparing regulations for restaurants regarding business soliciting and expects these to be implemented by the summer.
