When Alvor resident Jacky White was diagnosed with breast cancer recently, her husband Mark along with friends decided to hold a fundraising event to support those involved in cancer care in the Algarve. With the help of the Masonic Lodge of Peace and Harmony no.96, they organised a 10-pin bowling evening in Torralta, Alvor.
Funds raised during the evening together with donations from friends and customers of Marco’s Bar and Bistro in Alvor (owned by Jacky and Mark White) have allowed for a number of items to be purchased, namely three wheelchairs, a flat screen TV and six post-operative bras that have now been delivered to the breast cancer ward at Portimão Hospital, as well as a donation of €100 that was made to the Associação Oncológica do Algarve towards its Casa Flor das Dunas project, a hostel for patients who need radiotherapy, but who live too far away to travel each day.
Jacky is currently undergoing treatment and is very thankful for all the support she has received so far.
