Over 200 hot meals were served at the Portimão Soup Kitchen on Christmas Day with the help of the Resident and its generous reader José Pessoa who presented the highest bid – €400 – in a Christmas cake auction held Facebook last month.
Fundraiser Alison Firth said that over 200 portions of ‘bacalhau com natas’ (codfish with cream, one of Portugal’s most traditional Christmas dishes) were served. Bags filled with sandwiches, fruit, yoghurts, cakes and chocolates were also handed out to those in need.
“It was a fun and fulfilling day and we really are grateful for all your help,” said Alison.
