Dear Editor,
We have now owned a house in the Algarve for 28 years and until the last few years have regularly flown into Faro airport. Last year we drove down from England for two extended stays and had not therefore experienced the shambles over car hire.
Last week my son and I, and two friends, visited for a short golfing holiday.
I have always used Auto Jardim as I have found their service to be first class and I was met by a young lady who directed us to the pick-up point outside the airport. It was raining so a rush with our golf clubs to the undercover area was necessary.
The bus then picked us up and took us to the depot where we were dealt with most efficiently and similarly on the way back.
In the past, we used to pick our car up at the airport from a kiosk near the carpark which was far more efficient and gave a good impression.
I cannot imagine what newcomers to the Algarve now think. Perhaps ANA are deliberately pushing the major car hire firms such as Avis (who do maintain a presence) but they certainly are not helping with the overall need to increase tourism.
