Following several years working in the restaurant business doing what he loves – cooking – Fernando was tired of the stresses involved behind the scenes in the kitchen and decided to branch out on his own, doing something else he enjoys – renovations and repairs.
Fernando offers numerous services, including garden maintenance, painting, small building jobs, roofing, tiling, land clearance, stone walls and so on. He also offers a 24 hour emergency service.
Speaking fluent English, Fernando already has a number of British clients in the Barlavento area, who have been very pleased with his work.
“I love seeing the job come together,” he says. “Even small jobs, like the construction of a barbecue, are very satisfying.”
Fernando, who is 35, moved to Portugal with his uncle and aunt when he was just a few months old during the war in Angola.
The plan was that he would just stay for a few years but he never returned. He has come to love Portugal and now calls it home, having settled down in Silves with his Portuguese wife and two-year-old daughter.
And his plans for the future? “For this business to grow enough for me to eventually be able to have my own restaurant,” he says with a smile.
