St Luke’s Church in Palhagueira was filled to capacity for the annual Royal British Legion Remembrance Sunday service on Sunday.
Around 150 residents gathered to remember, and give thanks to, all those who have served and continue to serve their country and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Attending the service led by Father Reid Hamilton were the British Ambassador Chris Sainty along with his wife Sarah and Clive Jewell, the British Vice Consul for the Algarve.
A sum of €750 was raised from the collection and the RBL would like to thank St Luke’s Church for allowing them to hold the service there and for the collection.
The official lunch followed at Restaurant O Alagoas in Santa Bárbara de Nêxe where 45 people enjoyed a four-course meal accompanied by fine wines – “in fact, this proved so popular that we had to turn people away,” said Colin Hearn, RBL Algarve representative.
“We were blessed with fine weather, a good attendance and an excellent lunch. What better way of rounding off this year’s Poppy Appeal?”
