St Vincent’s Chaplaincy in the Algarve is holding an evening service on Remembrance Sunday (November 13) in Tavira, at the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Chapel at the Hotel Vila Galé Albacora, from 6pm.
The main Remembrance Service in the Algarve will be at St. Luke’s Church, Palhagueira, at 10.50am, when wreaths will be laid by Kate Christie, Second Secretary, on behalf of the British Ambassador to Portugal, and members of the Royal British Legion.
There will also be a Remembrance Service at Praia da Luz Church at noon.
Revd Bob Bates said: “The service in Tavira may appeal to those in that area who cannot travel or who do not want to do so.”
The Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Appeal coordinator for Portugal, Sandra Wilkinson, told the Algarve Resident: “At Remembrance tide the British community throughout the world remember those who died for the freedom that we enjoy today and the visible representation of that Remembrance is the wearing of a Poppy and the keeping of the Two Minute Silence at 11am on November 11.
Poppies are now available for sale at The Resident Group offices, Rua Visconde de Lagoa, nº2 and 3, in Lagoa.
