Organisers recommend signing up “as soon as possible”
Registrations have opened for the 14th Birdwatching & Nature Activities Festival in Sagres.
This year, the largest event dedicated to birds and nature in Portugal will take place from October 5 to 8, with over 200 activities making up the programme which was announced last week.
Organisers recommend registering “as soon as possible” because many activities sell out quickly.
The programme is available on the event’s website and features a wide range of activities for families and nature lovers, many of them free.
Among the new activities this year are opportunities to walk by moonlight, discover which animals live in tide pools, and engage in nature-themed board games.
In addition to the new features, there is still a wide range of birdwatching activities, boat trips to observe birds and dolphins, hikes, workshops (such as photography and illustration), and challenges for children.
“During this time of year, thousands of birds fly over the Algarve on their way to their wintering grounds in Africa, providing a spectacle worthy of a festival,” organisers say.
“Among them is the white-crowned robin redbreast, the headliner of this year’s event. In the autumn, the white-crowned robin redbreasts that nest in our country are joined by those coming from the north – all heading to Africa for the winter, and for many, the journey takes them through Sagres. To witness this spectacle, hundreds of birdwatchers also converge on this location, joining in this festival that has become a regular fixture on the calendar for many families,” they add.
The event is once again organised by the Vila do Bispo Municipal Council, in partnership with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the Almargem Association. The 14th edition of the festival is sponsored by Ventient Energy Services, S.A. and Sagres Intermarché.
