Mamamaratona, the annual breast cancer awareness run organised by the Algarve’s cancer association (AOA), is due to be held on October 25, starting from the Expo Arade fairs and exhibitions centre in Portimão.
The aim of this event is to inform people about breast cancer and the importance of screening regularly for the cancer as well as to raise funds for the construction of Casa Flor das Dunas, a temporary residence for patients undergoing treatment at the radiotherapy unit in Faro.
The run or walk of five or eight kilometres on flat urban terrain along the edge of the River Arade is due to start at 10am.
Registration to take part in the Mamamaratona costs seven euros for adults and three euros for children up to the age of 12.
Those who would like to take part in the Mamamaratona may register at the Continente shopping centre in Portimão from October 19 to 23 from midday until 5pm and on October 24 from 10am until 2pm.
