Record number of air passengers

Passenger traffic at Faro Airport increased by 12.2 percent during July compared with the same period in 2009, according to data released by ANA, Airports of Portugal.

Despite the problems caused by the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull in April, figures for January to June, compared with the same period in 2009, recorded an increase of 2.5 per cent.

Meanwhile, Portuguese airline TAP carried five million passengers between January and July this year, beating a record set in 2008 and representing an increase of 5.9 per cent over the same period last year.

In July alone, 994,710 passengers used TAP, with 36,738 people carried on July 31, another new record for the number of people carried in one day by the airline. According to TAP, its planes have been travelling almost full.
