A record €16,300 was raised at the Algarve Chefs Week Christmas dinner held on Saturday, December 1 at the Centro de Congressos do Algarve at Vilamoura Marina.

Around 600 guests were treated to a night of delicious food prepared by 14 chefs from some of the Algarve’s most prestigious hotels.

The list of participating chefs includes Adérito Almeida, André Basto, Bruno Viegas, Bruno Oliveira, David Domingues, Diogo Pereira, José Botelho, José Leitão, Luís Batalha, Miguel Lourenço, Miguel Teixeira, Nuno Martins, Vítor Monteiro and Vítor Moreira.

The funds raised will be donated to APEXA, which supports people with disabilities, and CATRAIA, which provides a shelter for neglected children in Portimão.

Apart from the delicious food, guests were also able to enjoy a presentation by Portuguese TV personality Mário Augusto, music by Filipe Pinto, the winner of the third Portuguese Idols TV competition, and Portuguese pop singer Bruno Meyners, as well as a stand-up comedy performance by Guilherme Fonseca.

Organisers said the dinner was only possible thanks to the help of 70 volunteers in the kitchen and waiting tables.

The goal in 2019 will be for the Algarve Chefs Week Christmas Dinner to serve 1,000 people so that two more institutions can be supported, Hugo Gonçalves from Tivoli Marina Vilamoura told Barlavento newspaper.

Conrad Algarve, Hilton Vilamoura, NAU Salgados Dunas Suites and NAU Salgados Palace, Tivoli Marina Vilamoura, Anantara Vilamoura Resort, Cascade Wellness & Lifestyle Resort, Dona Filipa Hotel, MacDonald Monchique Resort & Spa, Praia Verde Boutique Hotel, The Lake Spa Resort, Vidamar Resort Hotel Algarve, Monte Santo Resort and Vila Monte Farm House were the participating hotels.

Makro Portugal also provided all the ingredients for the dinner.

Mário Campos, general director of Albufeira’s Makro, said: “We identify with these causes. Our store in Albufeira provided all the products for the dinner, a contribution that leaves us feeling very happy and with a warm heart. Knowing that we can help these institutions, especially during this time of year, brings us great joy.”
