Co-skippers Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard based their trimaran ‘Spindrift 2’ at the Portimão marina before initiating their record attempt at the Discovery Route first used by Christopher Columbus.

In the event, the fine tuning off the Algarve coast paid rich dividends as the 3,885 miles between Cadiz and San Salvador in the Bahamas were covered in only six days, 14 hours, 29 minutes and 21 seconds, shaving almost 21 hours off the old record set by ‘Groupama 3’ in 2007.
