This October half term, Stageworks are offering children between the ages of seven and 18 the opportunity to take part in a live theatre production and, with just five days to put a performance on, they will certainly have their work cut out.
Stageworks are running a new Musical Theatre Workshop at the Auditório Fonte da Vida in Lagos between October 25 and 29 open to children looking to take to the stage.
“This is a really exciting project,” said Julie Berridge, head of Stageworks. “We are very experienced in running these workshops and have produced them all over the UK in professional theatres for many years, but never here in Portugal.”
She added: “We moved to the Algarve in April and were overwhelmed with the amount of talent here. Just look at Churchill -The Musical there are loads of talented children involved with that production and we are confident this workshop will be a real success, as they are really popular in the UK.”
The workshop will be an opportunity for local children to enjoy the arts with acting, singing and dancing all being covered over the five days of the course, working towards the final production to be performed to family and friends on the final evening.
Julie Berridge said: “This is our first workshop in the Algarve so we have gone for a really popular subject, Reach for The Stars, a show we have devised based on the popular TV programmes of the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
“Everyone wants to be a star and our professional teachers will give all the children the opportunity to shine. It doesn’t matter if the children have any experience of acting as everyone is welcome on our fun course,” she said.
Julie Berridge is no stranger to the world of theatre as she was herself a performer, singing and dancing her way around the world. After her time treading the boards, Julie then set up a thriving Stagecoach Theatre Arts school in the UK and successfully ran the school for more than eight years.
For this workshop, Stageworks are bringing in an experienced theatre actor and director, Tony Howes, a popular West End star and TV actor to direct the piece.
The course is due to run daily between 10am and 4pm from Monday to Friday, with the performance taking place on the Friday evening.
Participation in the course costs 120 Euros per child for the week with discounts available for siblings.
