There have arguably been many benefits related to the decision to host the 2016 Web Summit in Lisbon.
Personally, I believe the most important aspect is that the Web Summit proved that our country is more than capable of hosting large-scale, internationally important events during the so-called low season.
And by this I don’t just mean Lisbon or Porto. If you look at the Algarve, you’ll find great venues that could perfectly be used to bring events like the Web Summit down south during winter.
It pains me to see how our beautiful region goes into ‘hibernation’ in winter. There’s so much that could be going on here and it’s a huge shame that it seems seasonality is an issue that is still far from being solved.
Authorities have to think more ambitiously.
