Re: Sleep-deprived residents …

Dear Editor,
Residents of Albufeira are not the only ones to have their ears assaulted.

Last summer residents close to the beach in Praia da Luz were subjected to agonising levels of sound from a local café, from which there was no escape, for even with doors and double-glazed windows closed, the walls vibrated to the incessant boom, boom, boom of the bass notes.

It is true that responsibilities are divided, as the local authorities simply do the licensing, whereas enforcement lies with the police, who seem to show little enthusiasm for the task.

However, the police do not always appear to be properly informed about licensing restrictions, and the local authorities could do more by actively seeking co-operation with the police before the summer season gets underway, and maintaining it throughout.
