RE: Portimão motion says “no” to controversial Quinta da Rocha development plans

Dear Editor,

I wanted to let you know how happy I was to read about this motion.

Ever since I was a young child I remember seeing the beautiful scenery of the Ria de Alvor, mostly untouched by man.

It will be a tragedy if this ridiculous project moves forward, especially considering the criminal background of the man who is heading it.

There are already enough hotels in the Algarve, most of which end up closing for the winter anyway. And surely if they want to build more hotels, they can do so in other areas that won’t affect the beauty of one of Alvor’s biggest treasures.

Just look at what the Pestana group has done – they have opened a hotel in an area that for decades was home to an abandoned structure.

They were able to turn their own ambitious project into what many consider a public service – the demolition of a local eyesore.

Hopefully, Portimão council will realise that no-one wants this Quinta da Rocha project to be approved except for money-hungry eco-vandals.
