Dear Editor,
It is great to hear that Mr César was found a new home.
I can’t imagine what it would be like to live on the street for a month, much less 20 years!
One can only hope that the people at the Centro Paroquial of Paderne can help the man live for the rest of his days with some decency, peace and quiet.
I have to say that, on this same matter, I was surprised with the content of your special feature about homelessness in the Algarve last week.
I’m sure that many, just like me, had no idea that the problem was so serious here. It’s understandable that some might want to keep these facts from being published in the media, as the Algarve lives off tourism, but unfortunately the truth is that often we only hear about the “five-star luxury” part of the Algarve.
Hopefully, you and other newspapers will continue to focus on these issues and push authorities to act in some way.
Paul Gerrard, Olhos d’Água
