What was the point of this item? To elicit a gasp of horror from your readers? If so, this is cheap sensationalism.

The fact is that the Portuguese are generally extremely patient with children, so the child’s behaviour must have been exceptionally unruly to have pushed the doctor’s patience to breaking point.

Furthermore, if the parents had kept their child under control, which is what parents are supposed to do, the incident might never have taken place.

In any case, it is hardly newsworthy.
