Raring to go

Judged on the three days of official tests at the Portimao Motor Park, the Parkalgar Honda team is more than ready to challenge for victory during the forthcoming World Supersport Championship season.

Young newcomer Sam Lowes was able to impose himself from the word go, posting the fastest times on his CBR 600RR in spite of the unfavourable weather conditions.

“That was the first time with the whole team for me,” the 20-year-old from Lincoln said. “Starting with top lap times gave me enormous confidence and bodes well for the start of the season. This was a great experience and although I am giving my debut in World Supersport I think it will be possible to fight for a top three finish race by race.”

Parkalgar team mate Miguel Praia encountered more difficulties with the wet conditions and finished tenth overall.

“These were not ideal testing conditions,” the Albufeira resident said. “We will now go to Aragon (Spain) in the hope of preparing for the first race of the season in Australia (February 27) in the best way possible.”

Former Parkalgar Honda star Eugene Laverty also made good use of his local knowledge and showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with on his Yamaha YZF R1 in the Superbike class.
