The Earl and Countess of Wessex jetted into Portugal last week to open the Freeport Shopping Centre in Alcochete, the biggest discount shopping complex in Europe. The Earl cut the ribbon, accompanied by his wife, who looked radiant in a yellow dress. The royal couple commented that they had enjoyed the occasion enormously. This is not the first time that Alcochete has hosted royal visitors. In the 15th century, both King John I and King John II stayed for long periods.
