Racing season starts at the autodrome

Algarve International Autodrome (AIA)  is firing up for the 2012 racing season.

Following their involvement with the success of the BMW 3 World Series launch, the AIA welcome back the roar of competitive motorsports.

Teams from Formula 2 and Formula 3 have already carried out tests at the track to prepare themselves for the start of the 2012 season.

Then, on February 16 and 17, the Winter Series GT event held court, featuring Grand Touring F3 cars and with the GT Sport organisers seal of approval for the International GT Open.

The Iberian Supercars entered the arena on February 20 and 21 and mark the first official test and start of the 2012 racing season.

Among the competitors were a number of current champions, including José Pedro Fontes and Miguel Barbosa driving the Mercedes SLS, Cesar Campanico and Carlos Vieira with the Audi R8 LMS, the Goodsense Racing Team featuring drivers Patrick Cunha with Jorge Ramos and José Carlos Queiroz with Pedro Lopes at the controls of the Lamborghini Gallardo, Carlos Alonso and Nuno Batista in the Ginetta G50 and a mixed team with Angela and Joffrey Didier Negrão driving a Lotus Evora, among many others.

This year’s International GT Open and European F3 races will take place at the AIA between April 27 and 29 and further details for tickets can be found on the website,www.autodromodoalgarve.com
