Race to open new pavilion in Parchal

WORKMEN HAVE been battling against the clock to complete the final touches of the Pavilhão do Arade, which is due to open today (Friday).

The Algarve’s largest pavilion, with a total of 9,700sqm of constructed area, contains an auditorium for 1,000 people, an exhibition room, a multifunctional room, three foyers and a car park with the capacity for 400 vehicles.

José Carlos Perreira, executive director of the new pavilion in Parchal, said: “It is a multipurpose building where all kinds of events of small or medium size can take place,” adding: “Every area in the pavilion has access to the outside, which will allow more than one event to take place at once.”

The main feature of the building is the 1,343sqm auditorium which has a movable electromechanical seating stand with a capacity for 900 people and can be moved within five minutes. As well as this, the pavilion contains the largest theatre stage and hydraulic orchestra platform in Portugal and Spain, which will be used by the Algarve orchestra for a pre-inaugural concert. An official inauguration has not yet been scheduled but is due to be held before the end of the year.

Lagoa, Monchique, Portimão and Silves Câmaras as well as the RTA, the Algarve’s regional tourism board, and 16 private companies within the tourist industry in the region, collaborated together for the construction of the pavilion.
