Tavira will be hosting the Junior European Sailing Championship (420 and 470 class) from today (August 11) until next Saturday (August 19). Around 400 participants from 17 countries will race around an area near Tavira Island and Cabanas beach.
The opening ceremony will be held today from 7.30pm and the qualifying races will take place between August 13 and August 18 from 1pm. The event is organised by the Tavira Nautical Club, the Portuguese Sailing Federation and the International 420 and 470 Class Associations.
British representatives include Ally Martin and Dan Schieber competing against the Portuguese pair Luís Niza and Paulo Baptista, among others. Other participants include Jan Jasper Wagner and Alexander Türk from Germany, and Mattieu Almekinders partnered with Giorgios Pijnen from the Netherlands.
