It seems that the Algarve weather has a thing about the Cupid Group’s Quiz for the Animals. Having threatened to rain on the event in July, it tried again in September!
Nevertheless, the final summer season quiz was held on Saturday, September 14, on the terrace of Vivenda Constancia near Silves, the home of hosts Christopher and Roberta New.
The teams, amongst other challenges, sought to identify pictures of celebrities from film, politics, music and sport and some magnificent world landmarks.
The evening raised a total of €300, which, together with the €260 raised in August, will be used to enable the newly-reopened animal rescue centre at Goldra to complete work on their new dog runs before the winter weather sets in.
For supper, Robbie laid on carrot topped beef pie and a bean risotto and volunteer quizzers provided a magnificent one pot chicken casserole from Lynn, and a superb cheese and onion pie from Pam. This was followed by a selection of sweets including fruit trifle, cherry cheesecake and chocolate gateau.
The evening ended with the free prize draw while Robbie the marker sorted out the final scores.
The first quiz of the winter season will be held on Saturday, October 12. If you enjoy a good quiz and would like to join in the fun and meet new people, please get in touch, although there are only limited places available as numbers are now strictly limited to 24 players. For €14, you get an evening of good food, a general knowledge picture and music quiz and two lucky numbers for the prize draw.
Everything is supplied by volunteers and, with no venue costs, virtually all the money raised goes straight to the animals. Our target for the summer was €2,000 but regrettably we only managed €1,650 due to inclement weather early in the year.
