Quinta dos Vales awarded in China

The China Wine & Spirits Awards (CWSA), the biggest and most prestigious wine competition in Hong Kong and China, hosted its fourth major competition, the China Wine & Spirits Awards Best Value 2013, on March 4 in The Mira Hotel Ballroom, Hong Kong. The results were announced on March 8 and Quinta dos Vales wine and art park in Estômbar, Lagoa, found itself among the winners of the CWSA Best Value 2013, being awarded a Double Gold Medal for its Marquês dos Vales Selecta red 2010 and grabbing the trophy for Portuguese Wine Producer Of The Year 2013.

Karl Heinz Stock, Managing Director of Quinta dos Vales said: “This award came to us as a big but very welcome surprise. The Asian markets, and especially the Chinese, are of high importance for our export activities and in the past we have been investing a lot of time and effort to make our small Algarvian brand known in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Korea as well as Macau, Hong Kong and China. It has finally paid off and we hope we are able to make use of the momentum.”

The CWSA Best Value 2013 featured 3,300 of the world’s top wines, spirits and sparkling products, with participants from 25 countries competing for the awards. The record number of entries reflects the importance of the China market and the recognition and respect for the CWSA Best Value medals, both in this market as well as internationally.

The event was hailed a success, with top government representatives attending and media coverage from all over China and the rest of the world.

The CWSA are the only awards in the world judged specifically for the China market and are entirely focused on consumer preference and demand.

The key criteria for selecting the winners is the quality-price relationship, with the 100 judges blind tasting the wines based on price levels, from over €20 to under €2.
