Quinta da Calma, the Centre for Integral Yoga and Holistic Health in São Lourenço near Almancil, is again holding its popular Festival of Light.
Visitors are welcome to discover the wide range of natural therapies and courses available to help restore a healthy balance between mind, body and spirit.
One of the principal objectives of the event, which runs from Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24, is to raise funds for under privileged children. This year the funds raised will go to the Casa da Primeira Infância in Loulé.
This is a private institution, which offers a nursery and children’s day care centre for six to10-year-olds. It also offers a temporary refuge for 12 children, from newborns to 12-year-olds, who have been abandoned, abused or neglected or who are at risk in their own homes.
During the event, resident and guest therapists will give talks and demonstrations including various kinds of massage and meditation, foot reflexology, aura readings and oriental dance. There are no charges for attending any of the talks or classes.
There will be stands selling a variety of items, including crystals, books and organic produce. Vegetarian meals will also be available at the restaurant.
The festival opens on September 22 at 3pm with a Native American ceremony by special guests Standing Bear and Laurinda from the Cherokee Nation. Entrance fees: Friday five euros, Saturday eight euros, Sunday six euros and a three day pass is15 euros. Part of the entrance fee, as well as other donations given, will go to Casa da Primeira Infância.
