Querença hosts popular snail festival this month

The village of Querença in Loulé will be hosting its annual ‘Festival do Caracol’ (Snail Festival) on May 19 and 20.

Snails are among Portugal’s favourite summer ‘snacks’, usually cooked with garlic and oregano, and served with toast and a cold beer.

But there will be several other snail dishes to try at the festival, which will also feature a handicraft fair with local artists from Querença, Tôr and Benafim and musical entertainment by singer/organist Ruben Filipe.

The event will begin on both days at 4pm at the square in front of the church and is organised by the Casa do Povo de Querença with the support of the parish union of Querença, Tôr and Benafim and Loulé council.
