Quercus, the national association for nature conservation, has failed in its attempt to demonstrate that a tourist development in Eastern Algarve was built in a classified area.
The environmental group alleged that Tavira council had allowed the construction of the Palmeiras Resort on a section of agricultural land which was protected under the law.
The dispute led to court action, which ruled in favour of Tavira Câmara. The mayor of Tavira, Macário Correia, called the campaign against the Câmara “unfounded” and in a statement said: “Every document relating to the process was fully explained to the directors of Quercus.”
